Ekamai International School came alive with vibrant colors, flora, and fauna in its annual celebration of the Thai New Year, popularly known as the Songkran. This year, the Thai Department, through Mr. Attapol Sukkasem’s leadership, pulled off “Songkran in Bloom” a beautiful fusion of Thai culture, creativity, and community spirit, marking the start of Thailand’s traditional New Year on the campus. The celebration opened with devotional worship as Mr.Gandeeswaran Gandhitason, a values teacher in middle school, encouraged everyone to focus on respect, forgiveness, and cleansing as the driving force for Songkran in Bloom. He likewise requested everybody to take a moment to pray for the victims of the recent earthquake, which would bring healing to the nation. The water fights, a Songkran hallmark, were also a significant attraction. But this year, the school focused on a more controlled and playful approach, with water stations at the soccer field allowing students to engage in friendly water play. The aim was to balance fun with safety, ensuring everyone could participate in the iconic water tradition in a safe and respectful environment. With laughter, learning, and a sense of togetherness, the Songkran in Bloom celebration was a beautiful reminder of the importance of tradition, community, and respect. The school’s blend of cultural activities and festivities allowed everyone to connect and embrace the spirit of the Thai New Year in a uniquely memorable way.
